A volleyball coach does as much as he can to make his team successful
By Jessi Lu
As one of the most popular, competitive sports, volleyball motivates many people in life.
Coffeen has spent many years working at helping middle schoolers and high schoolers in volleyball, leading them into competitions with other school teams. Being a former volleyball player, Coffeen spent many years wanting to become a professional athlete, but decided to help others learn the skills his coaches taught him.
“When I played volleyball, my coaches taught me a lot of skills,” Coffeen wrote. “Skills I teach to help others achieve their dreams.”
As a middle aged coach, Coffeen understands the stress of being a high school student and playing on a team.
“If I’m being real here, I don’t regret becoming a coach. I’m able to achieve happiness through teaching….. Even though this isn’t what younger me planned, not everyone's dream can come true. Everyone on our volleyball team is very passionate and they will all become amazing players in the future.” Coffeen said.
Coffeen’s coaching style isn’t as strict as other coaches as he just wants the teens to have fun during high school. Even though he isn’t strict, he still corrects their mistakes to improve the team.
“Cheering for everyone no matter what is really important when trying to motivate the team.” Coffeen added. “Regardless if it’s an actual game or not, you always want to cheer the team on/There’s a lot of potential for everyone on the boys and girls volleyball team. Their passion and love for volleyball shows how dedicated they are.”
